Who is Heath Goodall?
Heath Goodall was born in Seattle, WA. Heath's first language was SEE (Signed Exact English). In middle school, he learned PSE (Pidgin Signed English). During his senior year in high school, he was introduced to ASL (American Sign Language). Heath said that "once ASL touched my eyes, I knew that this is the language for me for the rest of my life!"
Heath did his undergraduate work at from the University of New Mexico (2002) and his graduate work at Western Oregon University (2005). Additionally, Heath learned by watching (studying) people. He quickly learned to mimic and model some of their expressions and behaviors. Currently, Heath teaches ASL courses at Indiana University and numerous workshops on various topics.
Heath's first passion is the arts. He's master storyteller, performer, actor, and ASL poet. He loves to draw, using pencil, charcoal, and ink. Again, Heath's passion for the arts shines in everything he does, including the classroom where he makes learning ASL fun. He is married to Cheri for over 25 years and have two children.
Heath received NTT Trustees Teaching Awards (Indiana University, 2020).
